HUAWEI, HONOR FastCharge Protocol (FCP), SuperCharge Protocol (SCP)

 

Huawei and HONOR charging protocols

​Huawei and HONOR use their own charging protocols: FastCharge Protocol (FCP) and SuperCharge Protocol (SCP). Huawei FCP has since been succeeded by SCP.

What is FCP

FCP (FastCharge Protocol) - Huawei's fast charging protocol, released in 2015 with power of 18W. Its approach to charging is similar to QC 2.0

What is SCP

SCP (SuperCharge Protocol) replaced FCP. The first generation was released in 2016 with power of 22.5W; in 2018, Huawei released SCP Gen. 2 with power of 40W, and later up to 66W. Original generation 2 Huawei SCP chargers are backward compatible with older generations of charging protocols, including FCP.

Official Huawei charging modes

Huawei divides charging into three modes:

  • Standard charging - 5W (5V1A), 10W (5V2A).

  • Fast charging - 18W (9V2A), 20W (10V2A).

  • SuperCharge - 22.5W (10V2.25A, 5V4.5A, 4.5V5A), 25W (10V2.5A), 30W (10V3A), 40W (10V4A), 55W (11V5A), 65W (20V3.25A), 66W (11V6A), 88W, 100W (20V5A).

FCP and SCP profiles and required cables

  • FCP (20W) - 9V2A, 10V2A (model HW-100200C00) - MicroUSB, USB-C. There is information that FCP supports 12V2A, but I have not been able to find any Huawei devices that support FCP-24W.

  • SCP Gen.1 (22.5W) - 4.5V/5A, 5V/4.5A, 10V/2.25A. A 5A USB-A - USB-C cable is required.

  • SCP Gen.2 (66W) - 10V/2.5A, 10V/3A, 5V/8A, 10V/4A, 11V/5A, 20V2A, 20V/3.25A, 11V/6A, 3.4-21V6A. A 6A cable is required: USB-A - USB-C or USB-C - USB-C, depending on the charger version.

  • SCP (80W): 11V/6A, 10V/4A, 10V/2.25A, 5V/4.5A, 9V/2A, 20V/4A. A 5A USB-A - USB-C cable is required.

  • SCP (88W): 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 10V/4A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/4.4A. A USB-C cable is required.

  • Huawei/HONOR SuperCharge (100W) - 11V/6A, 10V/4A, 10V/2.25A, 10V/2A, 20V5A. A 6A cable is required: USB-A - USB-C or USB-C - USB-C, depending on the charger version.

  • SCP (100W): 3.4-21V, supported by the Huawei HW-200500C03 charging adapter.

  • SCP (120W): 5.5-20V/0.3-6A, supported by the HONOR HN-200600C00 charging adapter (USB-A).

  • SCP (127W): 3.3-21V, supported by the HONOR HN-200500CP0 charging adapter and the Huawei MateBook X Pro 140W Charger.

Charging mode identification

The mode is shown by the icon on a Huawei smartphone's screen: one lightning bolt means standard charging, a large lightning bolt next to a small one means fast charging, and two joined large lightning bolts mean SuperCharge. The SuperCharge icon may appear after the fast charging icon rather than immediately: the smartphone does not always switch to the SCP protocol right away, which is normal.

Cable requirements for SuperCharge

Huawei requires a cable rated for at least the charging current: the rated current is shown on the cable itself, its packaging or the manufacturer's website. For 100W, HONOR requires a smartphone supporting 20V5A and an original 6A cable.

HONOR SuperCharge

HONOR continues to use the SCP protocol under the HONOR SuperCharge name. The HONOR SuperCharge 100W (2025) charger supports SCP, PD 3.0 and PD 3.0 PPS with profiles of 5V3A, 9V3A, 12V5A, 15V5A and 20V5A, so it also works as a universal USB PD charger.

Third-party chargers supporting SCP

  • Baseus 65W GaN5 Pro Charger (CCGAN65C5) supports 50W SCP (3.3-12V)
