Charger for Google Pixel 9-11 Pro XL: why you need PPS 21V

Most smartphones need nothing more than the regular PPS range up to 11V to charge fast. The base Pixel models work this way too: up to 27-30W. Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro XL are the exception. To start charging at the maximum 37W or 45W (depending on the model), the adapter must support PPS up to 21V. The intermediate 16V and 20V ranges do not unlock this speed.
The cable is not a problem: the charging current does not exceed 3A, so any USB-C to USB-C cable will do. PPS 21V, however, is far from universal: even a powerful adapter may cap PPS at 11V, 16V, or 20V. Below we explain why, how to choose an adapter, and which models from the site's catalog fit.
What PPS is and why different ranges exist
PPS (Programmable Power Supply) is a USB Power Delivery 3.0 mode in which the smartphone itself requests the voltage it needs from the charger (in 20mV steps) and a current limit (in 50mA steps), and changes them as charging progresses. This reduces voltage conversion losses and heat.
An adapter declares not a single voltage but a range. In practice, there are three common upper limits: 11V, 16V, and 21V, while some manufacturers stop at 20V. Most phones are fine with 11V. Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 10, 10 Pro, and 10 Pro Fold get up to 27W on PPS 11V, while Pixel 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Fold get up to 30W (PPS 11V/3A). Google's Pixel charging help page calls any PPS adapter of 30W or more suitable. That holds for the base models, but the three Pro XL models need a wider range to reach maximum speed.
Why Pixel 9-11 Pro XL need PPS 21V
Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro XL support the fastest wired charging in the Pixel lineup: 37W or 45W depending on the model. To enable it, you need an adapter with a PPS range up to 21V. According to the site's tests, chargers with PPS up to 16V and up to 20V do not unlock the maximum speed, regardless of the adapter's power.
There is one curious detail. According to independent measurements, Pixel 9 Pro XL and 10 Pro XL run at around 18V while charging, not 21V. Even so, the maximum-speed mode switches on only when the adapter declares PPS up to 21V, and it does not start with a 20V ceiling. So look at the upper limit of the range in the adapter's specification, not at the voltage you see during charging.
If PPS 21V is unavailable, the smartphone falls back to slower modes. In the site's tests, Pixel 10 Pro XL with PPS up to 9V, 16V, or 20V charges on PPS 9V at up to 25W, and with only fixed PD support it charges at 9V at up to 18W. Pixel 9 Pro XL switches to PPS 11V in the same situation.
The declared 37W and 45W are a ceiling. Actual power depends on temperature and charge level: independent measurements show peaks of around 32-41W. Even so, that is noticeably higher than the fallback modes.
Which cable you need
Pixel Pro XL charges at no more than 3A: at 21V, about 2A is enough for maximum power. So any working USB-C to USB-C cable rated for 3A (60W) will do. A 5A cable (100W or 240W) with an e-marker chip will not increase the speed: it is needed only for currents above 3A.
How to choose an adapter for Pixel Pro XL
In the adapter's specification, look for PPS with an upper limit of 21V, for example 3.3-21V or 5-21V. Ranges of "up to 20V", "up to 16V", and "up to 11V" do not fit.
Check the current in the 21V range: it must be at least 2A. The documentation for Google's own 45W adapter declares PPS 21V/2.25A (45W maximum) - use that profile as your reference. A 21V/1.5A range gives only about 31W.

Which chargers fit: picks from the catalog
It is easy to get lost in a large catalog, so below are the most successful models from different categories. All of them support PPS up to 21V. The names lead to detailed descriptions with measurements.
Wall charger, 140W and above. Three USB-C ports with identical capabilities, PD 3.1 up to 140W per port (160W total budget), a color display with per-port power, and a Bluetooth app for configuring modes. PPS up to 21V5A works in all modes except AI mode: in it, the range is limited to 11V, so for Pixel Pro XL choose another mode, for example, Standard. In a 30-minute test at 140W the adapter worked stably. Weight: 219g.
Wall charger, 100W. Two USB-C ports of 100W each (PD 3.0) and a USB-A port, a display showing the power of each port, and a folding European plug. The test confirmed PPS 5-11V5A and 4.5-21V5A. The package includes a USB-C 5A (240W) cable, 1.5 meters long, with a resistance of 101.4mOhm. A 100W load for 30 minutes passed stably. Weight: 212g.
Wall charger, under 100W. A compact charger with two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. The USB-C ports support PD 3.0 up to 65W and PPS 5-11V5A and 5-21V3A (63W). Power to an already connected device is not interrupted when a second one is plugged into the USB-C pair. A 30-minute test at 65W passed stably. Weight: 175g.
Power bank. Capacity is 24000mAh (86.4Wh), with two USB-C ports (input and output) and a USB-A port; charge and discharge power up to 140W is confirmed by testing. On the USB-C ports, the test showed PPS 3.3-21V5A. The display shows power and the estimated time to full charge or discharge, the case is IP66 rated, and a USB-C 5A (240W) cable, 1.5 meters long, is included. One downside: the weight of 680g.
Car charger. It runs from a 12-24V vehicle power supply and has USB-C and USB-A ports. The test showed PPS 5-21V3A, which is enough for Pixel 9-11 Pro XL. PD 3.0 is limited to 45W, and 100W is reached only with Xiaomi's proprietary Surge Charge protocol. At a 60W load, the charger ran stably for 30 minutes, while at 80W it heated to 80°C after 11 minutes and dropped the power to 40W. For a smartphone, this is not a problem. Weight: 36g, a 1-meter USB-C cable is included.
